Some of the best conversations my kids start happen when we're driving. I want to remember it how it took place, so I'm writing it that way.
Me: How did you like your substitute teacher today?
Son B: She smiles constantly, like constantly, even when she's angry.
Me: Wow, that's an unusual trait. I don't think I could smile when I was angry.
Son A: You would if you were an evil genius. That's what they do- smile a crazy smile all the time. They're really good at that. That, and trying to take over the world.

Warning: this is only temporary
I've been feeling some... not discontent, not really even boredom- just a desire to shake things up a little. I like change. So I'll start here. Once I get the "surroundings" a bit more to my liking, I'll start posting again.

The Opposite of Good Day
Looks like we are going to have to have our main water line rerouted to repair a leak under our slab foundation. Goodbye new floor money.

Good Day
First things first
Slept in a bit, took the dog outside, put her in the car to go to the grocery store but she was shivering so much I took her back inside. Picked up dry cleaning, shopped for some weekend groceries. Unloaded, put away, made a late breakfast, drank coffee, tidied up just a little, put together a meatloaf for dinner, wrote a mile long letter for hubby to read when he got up (he was sleeping in really late). Took a shower, got the boys together, left.
And then
Met friends at Brixx pizza, ate lunch, kids laughed. Parked our cars between the movie theater and book store, bought movie tickets, spent the interim at the book store.
Watched Movie
"Hotel for Dogs". I didn't dislike it as much as I'd expected too. There was something slightly retro- '70's, Benji- ish about it. Lots of cute dogs, mean adults, hero-kids, drama and peril, cute and outrageously unrealistic events. Kids loved it.
Now we're home
Had dinner- meatloaf, mac & cheese, corn, rolls, brownie with cream cheese frosting (I'm no health-foodie). It's freezing cold- literally. We're all tucked in, playing- on the computer, on video games, with the dog. It was a good day.

A New Year Under Way
Lots of little changes planned for the year, but the sum of which will hopefully add up to a big improvement. Last year...well, good riddance.
What's up for the year ahead? I will be: playing with my children, watching movies with my husband, writing about homemaking stuff that I love on my blog, working on scrapbooks and embroidery, reading, cleaning my house, trying to save money, walking and doing yoga, volunteering at school, taking care of my dog, cooking and baking, having lunch with friends, taking note of the sky outside my kitchen window as I cook dinner in the evenings, fine tuning some of our holiday celebrations, going to church, chatting on the phone with distant friends, taking some trips to visit grandparents, lounging at the beach during summer, planting some veggies in containers for the first time this spring, reading some great books with my boys, crocheting, writing letters, learning how to take better photos, babysitting for friends occasionally, meeting my friends out for girl's night out dinners, taking a weekend trip with just hubby (first I typed "huggy"- that's appropriate!) and me, deciding what color to make my hair this year (auburn? No, maybe chestnut brown), buying groceries (am I the only one on the planet who loves the grocery store? Really, I love it.), well, you get the point. Just life. Wonderful, sweet, simple, busy, happy, loving, sometimes tedious, hopefully not traumatic, rich and engaging
LIFE.
